NSW FOREST COLLECTIVE
Write to Politicians
Your Voice Has Power
Writing to politicians is one of the simplest and most effective ways to pressure decision-makers and show that community opposition to native forest logging is strong, informed and widespread.
Politicians work for us - and they need to be reminded of that.
While one letter might not shift policy, hundreds of them can spark change. A full inbox tells an MP that people are watching, that forests matter to their constituents, and that continued destruction will come with political consequences.
Why It Matters
Politicians keep tabs on which issues generate the most mail. Logging companies have lobbyists - we have community.
Letter writing:
-
Builds pressure from the ground up
-
Holds elected representatives accountable
-
Amplifies the message from the forests to Parliament
-
Shows that public opposition is real, local and organised

Tips for Effective Letters
-
Be respectful but firm - you’re holding them to account, not making threats
-
Keep it personal - explain why forests matter to you
-
Refer to current events or logging happening in your region
-
Ask for action - whether that’s an end to native forest logging, better protections for threatened species, or support for plantation-only forestry
-
If you get a response, follow up - let them know you’re paying attention
Send it Your Way
You can send your letter:
-
By post - a handwritten or printed letter carries weight
-
By email - faster and still effective
-
In person - deliver it to your local MP’s office
We also encourage you to share your letter online, tag your MP, and use your platform to encourage others to write too.
Make Yourself Heard
Logging is political. Politicians can choose to end it. But they won’t unless we demand it - loudly, repeatedly, and together.
Whether you’ve got five minutes or an afternoon, writing a letter is a powerful way to stand for the forests.
Add your voice to the movement. Let them know we won’t stand by while public forests are destroyed for private profit.
